About

Internet Moon Gallery is a non-profit online platform and curatorial project dedicated to art conceived through and for the Internet. Founded in late 2015 by the artist and curator Manuel Minch and launched to the public on 6 May 2016, the gallery commissions a new exhibition on every full moon, when invited artists and curators develop site-specific works within virtual-reality and 360° environments.

Rather than translating digital works into the conventions of the physical white cube, the project foregrounds the intimacy of everyday browsing — the screen at home, the personal computer, the mobile device — as the native context in which network-based art is encountered. Each exhibition is produced in close dialogue with the artist, so that the virtual space itself operates as an interface for the work.

Internet Moon Gallery es una plataforma online sin ánimo de lucro y un proyecto curatorial dedicado al arte concebido a través de y para Internet. Fundada a finales de 2015 por el artista y comisario Manuel Minch y presentada al público el 6 de mayo de 2016, la galería inaugura una nueva exposición cada luna llena, cuando artistas y comisarios invitados desarrollan obras site-specific en entornos de realidad virtual y 360°.

Frente a la traducción de las obras digitales a las convenciones del cubo blanco, el proyecto reivindica la intimidad de la navegación cotidiana —la pantalla en casa, el ordenador personal, el dispositivo móvil— como el contexto propio del arte de red. Cada exposición se produce en diálogo estrecho con el artista, de modo que el propio espacio virtual funciona como interfaz de la obra.

Concept and methodology

The gallery is situated, metaphorically, on the Moon. This location is not decorative but structural: the exhibition calendar follows the lunar cycle, and each opening coincides with a full (or new) moon. The gesture ties the rhythm of the programme to a natural, astronomical time that stands in deliberate opposition to the accelerated tempo of the network — a tension the project treats as a creative and methodological principle. From this premise, Internet Moon Gallery has functioned as a laboratory for post-Internet and net-based practice: an ongoing enquiry into how digital art can be exhibited, contextualised and experienced without being flattened by the display conventions of physical institutions.

Concepto y metodología

La galería se sitúa, metafóricamente, en la Luna. Esta localización no es decorativa sino estructural: el calendario expositivo sigue el ciclo lunar y cada inauguración coincide con una luna llena (o nueva). El gesto vincula el ritmo del programa a un tiempo natural y astronómico que se opone deliberadamente al tempo acelerado de la red —una tensión que el proyecto asume como principio creativo y metodológico. Desde esa premisa, Internet Moon Gallery ha funcionado como un laboratorio de práctica post-internet y net art: una investigación continuada sobre cómo exponer, contextualizar y experimentar el arte digital sin aplanarlo bajo las convenciones expositivas de las instituciones físicas.

Trajectory

Internet Moon Gallery emerged from research into the exhibition of new-media art and was consolidated in 2016, when it was selected for the second cycle of Web Residencies — "Re-entering the Ultimate Display", curated by Mario Doulis — a programme by Akademie Schloss Solitude and ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe. Over the following years the platform produced more than forty site-specific exhibitions (2016–2022) with an international roster of emerging and established artists and curators, among them Rosemary Lee, Anna Ridler, Brenna Murphy, Joana Chicau, Sandrine Deumier, Solimán López, Eva & Franco Mattes and Systaime (SPAMM). During the pandemic the open-call programme was paused in order to compile a comprehensive archive of the gallery's activity — the archive that structures the site today. The project has also developed pedagogical collaborations, notably with Merz Akademie (Stuttgart), whose "20Degrees" (2020) and "30Degrees" (2021) final presentations were realised with Internet Moon Gallery.

Internet Moon Gallery surge de la investigación sobre la exposición del arte de los nuevos medios y se consolida en 2016, al ser seleccionada para el segundo ciclo de Web Residencies —"Re-entering the Ultimate Display", comisariado por Mario Doulis—, un programa de la Akademie Schloss Solitude y el ZKM | Centro de Arte y Medios de Karlsruhe. En los años siguientes produjo más de cuarenta exposiciones site-specific (2016–2022) con artistas y comisarios internacionales, entre ellos Rosemary Lee, Anna Ridler, Brenna Murphy, Joana Chicau, Sandrine Deumier, Solimán López, Eva & Franco Mattes y Systaime (SPAMM). Durante la pandemia pausó las convocatorias para recopilar un archivo exhaustivo de su actividad. El proyecto ha desarrollado además colaboraciones pedagógicas, en especial con la Merz Akademie (Stuttgart), cuyas presentaciones finales "20Degrees" (2020) y "30Degrees" (2021) se realizaron con Internet Moon Gallery.

Luna — physical space (València)

In 2022 the project extended into physical space with Luna, a satellite venue in València (Spain), conceived as an earthbound, parallel dimension of the virtual gallery. Luna operates simultaneously as a studio and an exhibition space: invited artists develop site-specific projects on site, and — as in the online gallery — the programme follows a calendar based on the lunar cycle. Founder

Internet Moon Gallery is founded and directed by Manuel Minch (Santander, Spain, 1993), artist and researcher in new sociodigital practices. He studied Fine Arts at the University of Castilla-La Mancha and holds a Master's in Art and Design Research from EINA — Autonomous University of Barcelona (2017). His work has been shown internationally, including Open Codes (ZKM | Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe, 2018), ExoGallery (EP7, Paris, 2018), The Wrong Biennale (2019) and You and I are like that red wall… (CBS Gallery, Liverpool, 2018), with residencies at Akademie Schloss Solitude (2016) and studio das weisse haus / Orbital Residency (Vienna, 2018). Recent solo exhibitions include Asepsia (Galería Juan Silió, Santander, 2024) and umbra. (National Museum and Research Centre of Altamira, 2025). He is represented by Galería Juan Silió (Santander).
